How to Check Report Cards and Progress Reports in Schoology (EPISD Guide)

How to Check Report Cards and Progress Reports in Schoology (EPISD Guide)

If you are a parent or student in El Paso ISD, you do not need to wait for a paper report card to know how the semester is going. EPISD posts grades, progress reports, and report cards through Schoology and the EPISD Parent Portal, so you can check everything from a computer or your phone. This guide explains where report cards appear, how to view progress reports, how to download or print them, and what to do when something looks wrong.

Where Do EPISD Report Cards Appear?

EPISD uses Schoology as its learning platform, and grades flow through it. Report cards and progress reports are usually available in two places:

  • Schoology (student and parent accounts): the Grades area shows assignment scores, course averages, and final grades as teachers post them.
  • EPISD Parent Portal: official progress reports and report cards are posted here at the end of each grading period.

Think of it this way: Schoology shows the live, day-to-day picture of grades, while the Parent Portal holds the official report card document for each grading period. Check both regularly.

How to View Grades and Progress Reports in Schoology

Step 1: Log in to Schoology

Log in to Schoology via the EPISD login page using your student or parent credentials. If you are a parent with linked children, make sure the correct child’s account is selected from the child switcher at the top of the page.

Step 2: Open the Grades area

Click the Grades tab (or the Grades icon on the mobile app). You will see a list of the student’s enrolled courses with the current average for each one. Click any course name to see the detailed breakdown: every graded assignment, quiz, project, and test, with the points earned and the date it was graded.

Step 3: Review the grading period

Schoology lets you filter grades by grading period. Use the dropdown near the top of the Grades page to switch between the current quarter, the full semester, or past grading periods. This is how you view the grades that went into a specific progress report or report card.

How to Find Official Report Cards in the EPISD Parent Portal

For the official report card document, log in to the EPISD Parent Portal and look for the section labeled Report Card, Grades, or Documents. Official report cards are typically published shortly after each grading period ends. They appear as downloadable documents you can view on screen, download as a PDF, and print for your records.

If the portal offers report cards by grading period, select the correct quarter or semester before downloading, so you do not accidentally save the wrong one.

How to Download and Print a Report Card

  1. Open the official report card in the EPISD Parent Portal (or the grades summary in Schoology).
  2. Use the download or print button inside the document viewer — on most browsers you can also right-click and choose Print.
  3. Choose “Save as PDF” as the destination if you want a digital copy for your files.
  4. Check that all pages printed before closing the window, especially when printing multi-page report cards.

Understanding Marks, Grading Periods, and Averages

Grading periods

EPISD divides the school year into grading periods (quarters), grouped into semesters. Each progress report and report card covers one of these periods. Schoology’s period filter lets you see exactly which assignments counted toward each one.

Letter grades and percentages

Most EPISD courses use a standard letter grade scale (A, B, C, D, F) tied to percentage ranges. Your child’s teacher or campus handbook lists the exact scale, but in general an A represents excellent work, a C represents satisfactory work, and anything below a D may mean the student is at risk of failing and should talk to the teacher.

Weighted categories

Not all assignments count equally. Teachers often weight categories such as tests, homework, classwork, and projects differently — for example, tests might be worth 40 percent of the grade while homework is worth 10 percent. A low score in a heavily weighted category affects the final grade more than a low score in a lightly weighted one. You can see the weights in each course’s gradebook settings or syllabus.

What to Do If a Report Card or Grade Is Missing

  • Wait for the posting window: report cards are posted on a schedule after each grading period ends. Check your campus calendar or EPISD’s announcements for the date.
  • Check the grading period filter: in Schoology, make sure you are viewing the correct quarter — a “missing” grade is often just a filter set to the wrong period.
  • Contact the teacher: if an assignment grade is missing or looks wrong, email the teacher directly. They can correct scores and explain how the grade was calculated.
  • Check the parent portal account: if the official report card does not appear, confirm your Parent Portal account is linked to your child’s student record, and that you are looking under the right child’s name.
  • Contact the campus registrar: for persistent problems — such as no report card appearing at all — the campus office can verify the account linkage and posting status.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are EPISD report cards posted?

Report cards are posted after each grading period ends, usually within a week or two. Your campus calendar lists the exact posting dates for each quarter.

Do I need the Parent Portal, or is Schoology enough?

Schoology shows live, up-to-date grades, which is great for day-to-day monitoring. The Parent Portal holds the official report card documents, which some schools require for enrollment transfers or scholarship applications. Use both.

Why is a grade different in Schoology than on the report card?

This usually happens when a teacher updates grades after the report card was generated, or when the two systems sync on slightly different schedules. The official report card in the Parent Portal is the one that counts; ask the teacher if the difference is large.

Can I see past report cards?

Yes. Both Schoology (through the grading period filter) and the Parent Portal (through archived documents) keep past grading periods available, so you can compare progress over the year.

My child has a low grade. What should I do first?

Open the course grade breakdown in Schoology to see which assignments pulled the grade down. Then check whether those assignments were completed at all — missing work is the most common cause. Reach out to the teacher for a plan to make up work or raise the grade before the next report card.
